Tennessee can take real pride in the state science grades on the Nation’s Report Card, which marks the first time that the state has scored in the top 20 in any subject on the assessment. Tennessee fourth-graders and eighth-graders not only grew faster than the nation as a whole, their gains were double the national pace.

“Education is the key.” That’s the phrase that Gibson County Mayor and proud TCAT alum Tom Witherspoon uses throughout his annual “no excuses” talk to Gibson County students. Coupled with humor, including more than one jab at rival SEC football teams, Witherspoon kicked off the annual Milan High School College App Week Tailgate with words of wisdom based on his experience with higher education.

SCORE has released Prepared for Day One: Improving the Effectiveness of Early-Career Teaching, a report that explores new opportunities to support greater student achievement.
