A longtime higher education reporter, Fain’s journalism focuses on the nexus of education and work. He writes and runs the newsletter, “The Job,” and is co-founder of Work Shift, a news site that looks at whether education and training are delivering the skilled talent and economic opportunity that society needs. Fain also hosts “The Cusp,” a podcast about how artificial intelligence is reshaping education and work. Previously, he served as news editor at Inside Higher Ed, where he led coverage of low-income and first-generation students, college completion, community colleges, federal policy, and emerging models of higher education. Fain was the founding host of the podcast “The Key” from Inside Higher Ed and has contributed to books on innovation in higher education. Earlier in his career, Fain served as a senior reporter at The Chronicle of Higher Education.
