Dr. Sara Heyburn Morrison
Executive Director, Tennessee State Board of Education
Morrison works with the nine-member board overseeing policy review and development across all areas of K-12 education. She previously served as K-12 policy advisor in the governor’s office and as assistant commissioner of teachers and leaders at the Tennessee Department of Education. Morrison began her career in education as a high school English teacher and is National Board-certified in adolescent English language arts. She holds a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in teaching from the University of Virginia and an Ed.D. from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
