Dr. Andrea Poynter
Executive Director, Nurses Middle College Nashville
Dr. Poynter serves as executive director of Nurses Middle College Nashville, the charter high school that opened in the fall of 2025 with a focus on preparing Davidson County students to become the highly educated and professional health workforce of the future. She worked as a nurse in Tennessee for over 19 years and served as a nursing professor at Tennessee State University, Columbia State Community College, and Belmont University. Poynter serves on the board of the Maury County Chamber Alliance and the Youth Education Foundation and is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, the Tennessee Nurses Association, and the International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing. She completed a Ph.D. in nursing at East Tennessee State University and earned a master’s in nursing education and bachelor’s in nursing from Austin Peay State University.
