Professional Headshot of Peter Tang

Peter Tang

Aug. 1, 1988 - Dec. 25, 2024

SCORE honors and celebrates the life of Peter Tang, our beloved colleague who served as the organization's senior director of research at the time of his passing.

Peter led SCORE’s strategic research efforts for nearly 10 years, identifying and studying new and emerging trends that could advance student success in Tennessee and collaborating across the Research and Innovation team to apply the findings across the K-12 to career continuum. During his time at SCORE, Peter also led the Tennessee Educator Fellowship where he oversaw the growth of the fellowship to equip more educators across Tennessee to advocate for student-centered policies and practices. He was a humble, solutions-oriented, and student-centered leader whose impact on SCORE, the work we do, and student outcomes in Tennessee will endure for many years to come.

Before joining SCORE in 2015, he taught middle school mathematics and high school English in Memphis and served as a master teacher in Shelby County Schools. He served on the board of EdReports.org, an independent nonprofit that helps educators leaders seek, identify, and demand the highest-quality instructional materials. Originally from New York, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a master’s degree in public policy from Vanderbilt University.

Peter requested that anyone who would like to donate to a cause on his behalf do so to the following two organizations:

  - Gilda’s Club of Middle Tennessee

  - SARC Research Clinical Trials

Please join us in celebrating Peter's life by sharing a special memory of him on our online memorial board below.
