Across Tennessee, educators, families, and community members are seeking effective strategies to help students recover from pandemic-related disruptions to instruction and learning. To support those efforts, recent virtual SCORE Institutes have provided valuable insights on proven practices to support and accelerate student learning.
The first, High-Dosage Tutoring That Works For Students, was designed to help school and district leaders, advocacy groups, and others learn how to accelerate student learning through high-dosage tutoring. By examining the research on this effective practice and hearing from districts that have recently implemented their own tutoring programs, attendees learned how Tennessee districts and schools can use the influx of state and federal resources to jumpstart their own effective tutoring programs. A helpful implementation guide also was provided.
The second SCORE Institute, Summer Learning That Works For Students, focused on helping districts and schools leverage their high-quality instructional materials to offer effective and engaging summer learning opportunities for students. The session featured district leaders from Lenoir City Schools, Trousdale County Schools, and Union County Schools who shared how they are implementing summer learning programs in their districts. Resources provided included a guide for planning ELA and math content for summer learning along with case studies from the districts who gave presentations.
As we work together to support student learning through and beyond the pandemic, SCORE will continue to highlight practices that work for students and share tools for their implementation.
