STATEMENT FROM SCORE ON TENNESSEE’S STATEWIDE TCAP RESULTS

Jamie Woodson, President and CEO of the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), released the following statement today on the release of Tennessee’s statewide results for the 2011-12 Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP): "In the last few years, Tennessee has committed to implementing bold and transformative education reforms that are squarely focused on better preparing our students for the future. The student achievement data released today show a continuation of steady progress by our state’s students and educators. This is hard work, but it is work worth doing. The data released today are a testament to the efforts of students, educators, parents, and other citizens to raise the bar. Tennessee’s reform plan includes many important pieces – from higher academic standards to supporting effective teaching. There is no one silver bullet. But the comprehensive focus our state has placed on improving public education is producing improved results. While we have a long way to go before every student graduates high school prepared for college or the workforce, Tennessee is making progress. This is a moment to celebrate."
