Before the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) announced its new strategic plan that works to align excellent K-12 and postsecondary education with career and life success, SCORE hosted the Future Ready Summit last fall. The Future Ready Summit focused on improving student readiness for college and career. To start the conversation, SCORE featured two videos at the Summit. The first, “Stats Told Through Students,” focuses on the need for better student preparation. The second, “Growing Up,” shows what could be achieved with greater focus on student preparation.

As the “Stats Told Through Students” video demonstrates, 87 percent of Tennessee’s students desire to go to college, but only 42 percent show college-level readiness according to ACT standards. SCORE’s new strategic plan broadens our focus from K-12 to college completion and career, so that 100 percent of Tennessee students are prepared to complete a postsecondary degree or credential program. As “Growing Up” demonstrates, when our schools remain student-centric and dedicated to creating opportunities for students to obtain real-world skills, the possibilities are endless. Watch both videos to see for yourself.
