2025 State of Education in Tennessee: Casting a Vision for Student Success

December 6, 2024

In 2025, SCORE will focus on a critical question that will have a lasting impact on the success of every student in Tennessee: "Are Tennessee students prepared for careers that enable economic independence?"

Answering this question requires an intentional look at the entire educational journey and will take greater alignment across K-12, postsecondary, and the workforce.

This year’s report, 2025 State of Education in Tennessee: Casting a Vision for Student Success, highlights new TN2030 statewide goals for student success and lays out six priorities our state must focus on to prepare students for careers that enable economic independence. We hope this report galvanizes leaders across the state around these goals and priorities so that we give students the opportunity to thrive in the classroom, career, and life.

Six Priorities for Education in Tennessee

  • Connect credentials and workforce opportunity
  • Improve long-term student success through postsecondary funding
  • Focus on high school pathways that prepare students for careers that enable economic independence
  • Innovate to recruit and retain excellent educators
  • Bolster access to high-quality public charter schools
  • Recommit to the foundational K-12 policies that have advanced student success

From Our Leaders

“Every point along the education journey matters — from the early years through graduation. At each milestone, there are key indicators of success that build on one another and give students the best chance at a fulfilling education, career, and life. If we have the data and the ideas to propel them through that journey, then we must take action and prepare them for their future.”  — Sen. Bill Frist, M.D., chairman and founder of SCORE.

“Advancing these priorities requires a shared statewide commitment to pursuing solutions for the most important challenges our students face along their educational journeys. We encourage leaders across our state to join us in envisioning a future where more Tennessee students have a clear path to opportunity.” — David Mansouri, president and CEO of SCORE.
