This episode features Scott Campbell from Persist Nashville, an organization that is working to empower more Nashville high school graduates — and especially students of color — to earn a college degree. Scott is also a member of the latest cohort of the Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute (CTLI), a joint initiative of SCORE and The Hunt Institute that is focused on addressing access and attainment issues in higher education.

While only one out of four Metro Nashville graduates earns a college degree, Persist Nashville students are enrolling at rates more than 30 percent higher than their Metro Nashville peers. This conversation highlights how the program aims to double Nashville’s college graduation rate through several measures:

  • Coaching: text-based and in-person
  • Community: student-led on-campus study groups, events, and connections
  • Care: financial emergency fund and professional mentoring support
