In August 2025, Courtney Bell, SCORE’s vice president of research and innovation, gave a presentation to the Tennessee State Board of Education on TN2030 — a statewide vision that sets bold goals for student success, from early literacy to postsecondary readiness — and emphasized the need for a shared commitment to help all students thrive.

With too few Tennesseans finding paths to economic success, TN2030 offers ambitious data-driven goals designed to ensure more students are academically prepared for postsecondary education and are able to enroll and complete a postsecondary credential. Following a “one student per classroom” pace of growth, these goals are based on metrics — reading and math milestones along with postsecondary enrollment and completion — that have proven to be predictive of student success.

Key points in the presentation include:

  • Why the goals are needed
  • How data inform these goals and help us measure their success
  • By inviting collaboration across sectors — districts, higher education institutions, schools, businesses, and community organizations — these goals build shared accountability to propel Tennessee forward
