NASHVILLE – The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) has released the following statement from President and CEO David Mansouri about the 2020-21 TCAP results: The Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) results from the tests administered last spring give teachers, families, and education advocates fresh information about where students stand academically after an extraordinary school year….
Three years ago, SCORE expanded its mission to encompass student success from kindergarten to career. At the end of this year’s legislative session, we see that Tennessee has advanced policy across the education continuum. In short, this session produced a lot of wins for students, including a strong COVID-19 recovery plan for students and institutions, wider college and career readiness opportunities, and a smoother path from high school to degrees and credentials.
The Lee administration and the Tennessee General Assembly recognized the value of assessment results and the need for flexibility during the January special session. The US Department of Education (USED) did the same in February. These were good, sensible decisions that will help advance student success.
New laws passed during a special legislative session will enable Tennessee to take on some of the biggest challenges facing K-12 education — among them, literacy and learning loss.
