Each year during Teacher Appreciation Week, I find myself reflecting on the many Tennessee educators who have shaped me into the person I am today. All across Tennessee, educators are inspiring students to find their passion, become lifelong learners, and ultimately thrive as they transition into postsecondary education and careers.

May 8-12, 2023, is Teacher Appreciation Week — a weeklong celebration to honor teachers and reflect on those who have made an impact on our lives. This observance is an excellent way for all of us — students, families, leaders, and community members — to reflect on the enormous role that teachers play in our daily lives.

As many others have so accurately stated, teaching is truly the profession that makes all others possible. Not only do educators help us develop the skills needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond, but, perhaps even more importantly, teachers are there for us when we need them most — providing guidance, support, and encouragement.

We know that educators are the top in-school factor in raising academic achievement, and Tennessee educators exceed expectations, going above and beyond to help their students learn and grow. Despite the challenges that have emerged since the pandemic, Tennessee teachers have continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to their profession and to their students, which has resulted in incredible academic progress.

SCORE recognizes that educators play a critical role in ensuring that all Tennessee students can succeed in college, career, and life. This week, and every day, we want to thank and celebrate those difference makers in Tennessee. Throughout the week, SCORE is sharing stories from educators who have made an incredible impact on our work and the lives of students across the state. We invite you to engage with us on social media using the hashtag #TeacherAppreciationWeek as we honor those who educate.
