James drives progress on special projects and initiatives across SCORE’s strategic priorities. Prior to joining SCORE in 2025, he served as chief of staff to the deputy commissioner at the Tennessee Department of Education and as a program associate for the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). James began his career as an elementary and middle school teacher in rural Arkansas and Austin, Texas. James earned a bachelor's degree in government and politics and a master's in public policy from the University of Maryland.
