The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) would like to invite its higher education, teacher preparation, non-profit, education advocacy organization, and private school partners to attend training sessions on the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics for grades 3-8. Although the training is intended for math teachers, school administrators and school personnel, the TDOE would like to invite its other partners in education as well.

The training sessions will be held in each of Tennessee’s nine Field Service Center Regions on July 10-12, July 17-19, or July 24-26. Participants will be divided by grade level they teach or are interested in. During these grade-specific breakout sessions, teachers hired by the state to facilitate training and lead the implementation of the new standards over the course of the next year will deliver modules and materials from the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Learning. The modules are focused on rigorous, research-based instructional practices such as performance-based assessments, instructional tasks, and assessing and advancing questions. There will also be a special session for principals to help prepare them to lead their staffs in implementation of the Common Core math standards in the coming school year.
